Walking is healthy, ecologically friendly, and vital to a small town’s
economic viability and community spirit. One year ago I began leading an
effort to aggressively study the condition of Rhinebeck’s pedestrian
system and how we might improve this aging portion of our infrastructure.
Many said that it could not be done.
Please join us on February 24 at 7:00 pm in Rhinebeck’s Village Hall to
witness an important milestone in Rhinebeck’s community development. Our
Pedestrian Task Force has completed their study and their report will show
that it can, in fact, be done.
This task force has raised the bar of expectation on many levels. Never
again will we be able to let important issues fester for lack of
solutions. This diverse group of volunteers has proven that the answers
to our problems lie within us, our neighbors, our Village. If we are to
achieve great things, we must all get involved in our communities and do
the hard work that is necessary to find those solutions. With your help,
it can be done.
A special Thanks to Dutchess County Department of Planning and Rhinebeck Task Force volunteers: Klara Sauer, Robert Babirad, Michael L. Bird,

SNL Alumna and Tony-Award Nominated Stage, Film and TV Actress Brings Her Passion for Improvisation to Rhinebeck on June 10 at 7:30pm.
Rhinebeck, NY – Led by Saturday Night Live alumna Denny Dillon, IMPROV NATION, the Hudson Valley-based company of gibberish talkers, conceptual tightrope walkers, off-the-cuff scene-makers and ridiculous risk takers, will take over the Rhinebeck Auditorium on June 10 at 7:30pm.
Dillon and her self-proclaimed “daredevil” ensemble of actors who improvise comedy and drama “right before your (and their) very eyes,” have presented their unscripted evenings to audiences throughout the Hudson Valley since 2006.
Dillon brings a wealth of improv experience to the stage. While a cast member of Saturday Night Live (SNL) during its 1980-1981 season, playing alongside Chevy Chase, Kevin Nealon and Randy Quaid, she also worked with Del Close, co-founder of Second City Improv. She first studied improvisation with Viola Spolin, a pioneer in the field and author of Improvisation for the Theatre.
The Rhinebeck Auditorium, located on the Rhinebeck High School campus, is the area’s newest venue for music, comedy and other live performances. The hall seats 500 and has hosted a variety of performers, including musicians Jay Unger & Molly Mason, Solas An Lae Irish dance, the Storycrafters and many others.

On Wednesday, December 7th, at 8:00 pm, the Bard Symphonic Chorus and Chamber Singers will perform at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts. The performance will include Joseph Hayden’s “Harmoniemesse” and Amadeus Mozart’s “Ave Verum Corpus,” conducted by James Bagwell.
Tickets are $5 for open seating and can be purchased at the box office on the night of the performance, or in advance. The entire concert will run just over an hour, without an intermission. Quite a few residents from the Rhinebeck/Red Hook community sing in the chorus.
I have read over this but still do not see how to submit information about a community event to you. Will you please let me know?

The Baptist Home in Rhinebeck is having their Annual Tag Sale. It’s historically held on the Saturday before Father’s Day and this year the date will be June 16 starting at 9AM. This extraordinary film was made on location in Gaza during and after Israel’s Cast-Lead invasion. The film highlights the experience of a young girl and the events seen through her eyes. Fida Qishta, the 27-year-old Palestinian filmmaker, will be present at the showing and there will be an audience discussion with her after the film. In addition, there will be a short film by Eva Lewis on her trip to Gaza. This is the beginning the upcoming series “Films of Palestine,” scheduled for the first Friday of every month through September. Guest speakers involved with the films will be part of the series. Free and open to the public.

We will start with a quick review of tree planting, then divide into groups to plant at the Cemetery, the Mini-Park and some residences around the Village. Dress for the weather, and bring a shovel. HYDE PARK, NY – The Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra (NDSO) will perform a collection of Hollywood’s most iconic scores and spotlight the talents of Master Sgt. MaryKay Messenger, the premier vocalist for the United States Military Academy Band at West Point. The concert will feature compositions from Titanic, Disney favorites and Henry Mancini and will also include ballads like Swinging on a Star, Moon River, and Shadow of Your Smile. NDSO will highlight the evening with a screening of the silent film The Immigrant (1917) starring Charlie Chaplin and original music by Ben Model. Experience the show on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. in the Marriott Pavilion at The Culinary Institute of America.
To complement this evening of nostalgic music, the CIA will open the Caterina de’ Medici restaurant for a special $39 pre-performance dining experience. The menu will include family-style Caesar salad and antipasti, a selection of five gourmet pastas served table side, and a dessert. AUSTRALIAN WILDLIFE CRISIS – Rhinebeck Animal Hospital Helping Hand Fund to match donations
The recent fires in Australia have taken a tremendous toll on the wildlife native to the area, causing about 500 million to one billion deaths and destroying the natural habitats of many of those who survived.
Past donations from generous clients and memorial donations from the Rhinebeck Animal Hospital have enabled the Rhinebeck Animal Hospital Helping Hand Fund to donate $2,500.00 to assist in helping the wildlife affected by the massive Australian fire crisis.
We have also committed to “match” up to another $2,500.00 from public donations made by February 15th to further assist in this very worthy cause. If you would like to participate, please mail/deliver a check payable to the Rhinebeck Animal Hospital Helping Hand Fund or call us to make a credit card donation in any amount. (Sending your donation to Rhinebeck Animal Hospital allows us to match it.)
We have researched many organizations to find the one that we believe will most directly assist in the recovery from this disaster. All donations made to the RAH Helping Hand Fund will receive an emailed receipt and will go directly to New South Wales Information, Rescue and Education Service (WIRES) in your name along with our matching gift that will double your effort.

Celebrate the historic American immigrant experience with a special concert that will incorporate a naturalization ceremony and a GRAMMY-nominated composition about Ellis Island. The first half will feature a Naturalization Ceremony administered by Dutchess County and include patriotic works. The second half will be Peter Boyer’s “Ellis Island: Dream of America” with projected images and spoken word from the Ellis Island Oral History Project. Local students from Arlington High School Admiral players will portray the immigrants.

HYDE PARK, NY – Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra is swinging into the season with
their second concert of the 2021 – 2022 season, JazzUp the Holidays, featuring vocalist Teri
Roiger. The event will take place on December 4, 2021 at 3:00 p.m.
Teri Roiger is an American jazz vocalist. After discovering jazz in her early 20s and making a
demo with legendary stride pianist, Butch Thompson, her musical path was set. Teri has
performed throughout the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Europe, and has been a featured artist at
the San Miguel Jazz Festival, Panama Jazz Festival, and Bolzano Jazz Festival. The depth of
her experience and love of jazz is apparent when she brings all of her talents to bear in her live
performances.
Music critic Stanley Crouch once said of Roiger,“She had all of the essence that anyone wants
to hear anytime from a true jazz singer… she is made for those who still understand the
meaning of the term the real thing”

HYDE PARK, NY – Come enjoy an evening of romantic Italian music with the Northern
Dutchess Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 8:00 pm. The program,
That’s Amore, will include excerpts from The Barber of Seville, themes from The Godfather
movies and familiar Neapolitan folk tunes. Guest trumpet soloist Peter Bellino will be featured
on Carnival of Venice. There is a snow date scheduled for 2/13 at 3:00 pm.
Guest trumpeter, Dr. Peter Bellino has been in high demand as a performer in the classical,
jazz and commercial idioms. He performs regularly with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic and
the Albany, Glens Falls and Schenectady symphonies as well as many regional chamber
ensembles including Albany Pro Musica, Empire Jazz Orchestra, New York Players
Organization and many marquee artists. Peter has performed throughout much of the United
States as well as Japan, Canada and India. Additionally, he serves as faculty at Bard College,

For 13 years each spring Rhinebeck Scout Troops 228, 128, Cub Scout Pack 28, and Girl Scout Troop 10479 worked together to facilitate the single largest food drive for the two food pantries in Rhinebeck known as Scouting for Food. The Scouts would spend a Saturday distributing bags and flyers to residents of Rhinebeck and the following Saturday would go back and collect the bags of food donations left by many, many generous residents. Those bags would then get sorted, boxed, and delivered to the food pantries. Each year collecting over 4,000 food items.
For the last 2 years with COVID, the Scouts have not been able to hold the food drive and this year as the cases have eased we see that the need for helping the food pantries is still great. The current enrollment in scouting is not what it used to be and so Troop 228 is hosting a Virtual Food drive through the Adopt-A-Pantry program with the New York Food Bank. We are hoping that local residents, friends, and visitors to the area will consider donating a little or a lot to help keep the shelves of the food pantries stocked so that they can continue to serve. Did you know, every dollar donated is equal to 4 meals! Imagine that, 4 meals for $1!!
