On November 12, 2019, the Rhinebeck Board of Education accepted the resignation of Superintendent of Schools Joseph L. Phelan for the purpose of retirement effective January 31, 2020. The Board thanks Mr. Phelan for his many years of dedicated service to the students and community of the Rhinebeck Central School District. We wish Mr. Phelan all the best in his retirement.
Moving forward, the Board has begun planning the search for a new Superintendent of Schools, as part of the search process, the Board of Education approved a search consultant firm, Strategic Educational Advantage, at a Special Meeting on November 18, 2019, to conduct a search process for a Superintendent of Schools on behalf of the Rhinebeck Board of Education.
The Board is currently looking for input from all stakeholders. This will be accomplished in two ways. The first opportunity will be through public forums. The date for the two public sessions is Monday December 16th, in the CLS community room at 9:00am and then at 7:00pm in the Rhinebeck High school Auditorium. Any Rhinebeck resident is welcome and encouraged to attend. These sessions will take approximately one hour. The consultants will be asking what qualities and strengths the community would like to see in the next Superintendent.
The second opportunity is a survey. The link is available on the District’s homepage (www.rhinebeckcsd.org) under the superintendent search process heading. This is a short survey. Paper copies are available as needed at the Greeter’s Desk of each school building, at the Rhinebeck Town and Village halls, at the Rhinebeck Library, and at other public locations.
When all of this information is gathered, it will be used to develop criteria for the search. We understand that this can be a busy time of year, but we hope that you will take this opportunity to meet with our consultants and complete the short survey.
