Northern Dutchess Hospital hosts Balance Day on May 16
Private appointments can be made between 10 a.m. and noon. Each one- to two-hour-long appointment includes a physical examination by a geriatric medicine physician, a medication review by a pharmacist and a balance and gait assessment with a physical therapist. A licensed social worker will also be available if needed to discuss how to cope with fears about falling.
“Most serious falls can be prevented with a thorough health checkup on a routine basis,” said Dr. Jodi Friedman, a geriatrician at the center. “Falls may happen to anyone, but they happen more frequently and become more detrimental to our health as we age.”
“As we age, changes in posture, gait and walking speed can be causes for concern,” the hospital’s physical therapy director Cathy Leonard said. “Body in Harmony is the perfect opportunity to get checked out.”
Health Quest and Western Connecticut Health Network have combined to form a new nonprofit health system to be named Nuvance Health. The new health system was created to provide communities across New York’s Hudson Valley and western Connecticut with more convenient, accessible and affordable care.
