Three (3) RCSD Board of Ed Seats Open for the 2019-2022 Term; District Outlines Importance of Board Service, Promotes DC School Boards Association’s Sat., March 23rd Workshop

Educating the children in Rhinebeck, and every other community across New York State, has always been a priority, and that’s become even more critical in these days of State Aid disparity, State standards and assessments, and other changes in education.

Parents and community members can be effective by being involved in their school districts. But there’s another way to be on the front lines of education in your community: Become a School Board member.

Each year, there is at least one, and typically several, school board trustee seats that are open to candidates who are qualified to run for their local school board in every school district across the Empire State. Rhinebeck has three (3) Board of Education trustee seats that will be voted on at the Annual Budget/Board Member election on Tuesday, May 21, 2019. You will find additional information on the process of running for a seat on the Rhinebeck school board at the following link: Prospective School Board Member Information 2019

Perhaps you’ve thought about running for a Board of Education seat, but don’t know how to begin. If so, please consider attending a workshop sponsored by the Dutchess County School Boards Association. This free event is being held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 9:00 A.M. – 12:00 Noon at the Dutchess County BOCES Administration Bldg. Board Room, 5 BOCES Road, Poughkeepsie, NY.

The workshop will present information on what individuals running for a school board seat should expect and the responsibilities of school board members if elected, and will provide a framework on how a school board member establishes a relationship and communicates with fellow school board members and the school superintendent.

Anyone considering running for election to a local school board, in Rhinebeck or another school district, is invited to attend this annual workshop for prospective school board members. Current school board members and a superintendent of schools will join a school attorney to provide a broad perspective of the role of a school board member. A question and answer period will follow the presentations.

There is NO fee for this workshop, which is presented as a community service by the Dutchess County School Boards Association. However, to assure sufficient seating and handouts, REGISTRATION IS REQUESTED. To register, call the DCSBA office at 845-486-4800, Ext. 2201.
