Rhinebeck – Northern Dutchess Hospital is bringing cancer care closer to home with the recent opening of its chemotherapy infusion center and addition of a medical oncologist, Dr. Alfonso Cutugno, to its medical staff.
“Our new infusion center will help cancer patients receive chemotherapy medications right here on our Rhinebeck campus, so they no longer need to travel as they fight cancer,” hospital President Denise George said.
With two private infusion rooms and seven semi-private treatment bays, the $425,000 renovation project was completed in April.
With office hours at on the hospital’s Rhinebeck campus, Cutugno of Health Quest Medical Practice treats all types of cancer and also specializes in blood disorders.
Previously, he was in private practice, caring for patients in Ulster and northern Dutchess counties.
“Dr. Cutugno is not only an excellent clinician, but he genuinely cares about each and every patient,” said Dr. John Sabia, vice president of medical affairs at Northern Dutchess. “We are lucky to have him on our staff and involved in the launch of our cancer care here in Rhinebeck.”
Cutugno is board certified and fellowship trained in hematology and oncology. His training was completed at Allegheny University Hospitals in Philadelphia. Prior to that, he did a residency and internship in internal medicine at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in New Jersey.
He holds a doctorate of medicine from the University of Catania in Italy.
