RHINEBECK, NY—Oblong Books & Music in Rhinebeck will host a shopping fundraiser and panel event in support of Rhinebeck Theater Society’s upcoming production of the Tony Award-winning musical FUN HOME by Lisa Kron, Jeanine Tesori, and Alison Bechdel, this Friday, May 25th beginning at 6:00 p.m.

The event will include a fundraiser shopping hour from 6:00-7:00 p.m.and 8:00-9:00 p.m., and a panel presentation, discussion and short performance from the show from 7:00-8:00 p.m.

FUN HOME is a musical adapted by Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori from Alison Bechdel’s 2006 graphic memoir of the same name. The story is about Bechdel’s discovery of her own sexuality, her relationship with her gay father, and her attempts to unlock the mysteries surrounding his life. This event will also serve as a kick off for Pride month which begins on June 1st.

The panel will comprise Rhinebeck Theater Society President, and Director of FUN HOME – Dorothy Luongo; Ashley France – who will be playing the role of Alison Bechdel in the production; Julie Novak – founder of TMI Project and host of the show “No One Like You” on Radio Kingston 1490 AM WKNY and Melanie Klein, Associate Professor of English at Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie. The panel will be moderated by Rhinebeck Theater Society’s Kirstin Horn. Following the discussion there will be a short performance from the upcoming production, performed by Ashley France.

Oblong Books is donating 20% of all sales proceeds between 6pm and 9pm on Friday May 25thto benefit the Rhinebeck Theatre Society and we invite everyone to attend and show their support for the Arts in our community and our wonderful local theater!
