New York Theatre Ballet’s “Mother Goose” Ballet at Kaatsbaan
Mother Goose and her entourage will arrive at Kaatsbaan on April 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. when New York Theatre Ballet (NYTB) presents its charming, witty and totally wonderful ballet for the young and the young at heart. Kaatsbaan is pleased to continue its Youth and Family Performances with this innovative and appealing work. Audiences will spend a “day in the life” of Mother Goose: the Old Woman who lived in a shoe and her children.
Choreographed by Keith Michael, whose “Alice-in-Wonderland Follies” delighted Kaatsbaan audiences two years ago, and set to an original score by Vladimir Shinov, “Mother Goose” offers children a splendid introduction to dance through the age-old rhymes so familiar to all. What could be more enchanting than to learn the alphabet than with “A is for Apple Pie” as the dancers “write” the alphabet with their bodies? Or to climb with “Jack and Jill”, pail in hand, as they mount their hill in a beautifully crafted pas de deux? Or to laugh and cry with the unfortunate “Three Blind Mice” as they celebrate “on pointe” their beautifully long and graceful tails and then morn their loss as they flee from the Farmer’s Wife? And one must not forget “The Littles” – but perhaps they should be a final surprise for all who attend this entrancing and captivating show.
Founded in 1978 by artistic director, Diana Byer, New York Theatre Ballet’s mission is to perform small classic masterpieces and new contemporary works for adults and innovative hour-long ballets for young children, all at affordable prices. The mission is carried out in the work of the Professional Company, its Ballet School NY and its LIFT Community Service Program. Together these divisions reach adults and family audiences across the country building a love for dance and diverse audiences for the future. During its three-week residency at Kaatsbaan NYTB will be doing workshops at local schools as well as giving two special performances of “Mother Goose” to students from area schools.
Kaatsbaan is a nonprofit, professional creative residence and performance facility situated on a 153-acre historic site in Tivoli, NY.
