The CENTER’s award-winning Saturday Morning Family Series magically appears October 7!
The Center For Performing Arts at Rhinebeck’s award-winning Saturday Morning Family Series returns on October 7 with an encore performance by magician Steve Johnson, followed each week by a wide array of family-themed shows. “We are still the best bargain for quality live family performances,” said Babette Fasolino, The CENTER’s Education Director. “Every Saturday from October through mid-December, we welcome touring artists as well as acclaimed local performers to provide memorable experiences for young people and their families.”

The CENTER’s Saturday Morning Family Series – Fall 2017
All performances begin at 11:00 a.m. and are approximately 50 minutes in length.

Steve Johnson returns with magic, juggling, an amazing illusion, and a dramatic escape! Enjoy a morning of captivating magic effects, comedy, surprise, and audience participation!
HANSEL & GRETEL by Tanglewood Marionettes
Come follow along with Hansel and Gretel as they venture into the Forbidden Forest, and into the adventure of their lives! The set is in the shape of a giant story book; as the pages turn, each new and exciting scene is revealed. Based on the timeless classic by the Brothers Grimm, featuring melodies from the Humperdinck opera.
THE PINK REFRIGERATOR by CENTER Players on Tour
Based on the inspiring book by Tim Egan, the story features lazy Dodsworth, a thrift shop owner who lives the life of a couch potato. One day he discovers a pink refrigerator with a note on it instructing Dodsworth to paint pictures. And the day after that, and the day after that, a new note appears for a different activity. The refrigerator takes Dodsworth on a road to self-discovery, where he finds interesting ways to spend time besides watching television. The pink refrigerator (and audience) help Dodsworth learn that life is more interesting if you become active and start exploring new things!
CHICKEN LITTLE by Bright Star Touring Theatre
“The sky is falling! The sky is falling!” This twist on the classic fable of Chicken Little encourages children to think critically about the information they see. When something from the sky falls and causes uproar on the farm, watch as our friends Chicken Little, Goosey Loosey and Turkey Lurkey search for clues to decide whether the sky is really falling, or if it is just a trick! For ages 3 and up.
SKYHUNTERS IN FLIGHT with Brian Bradley
A fascinating look at the world of raptors, including natural history and biology. Learn how birds of prey live and survive with an indoor falconry lecture and presentation, followed by an exciting outdoor flight demonstration (weather permitting). Ideal for all ages.
WIZARD OF OZ with CENTER Players on Tour
Dorothy has been captured by the Wicked Witch of the West and her friends, the Lion, the Tin Man and the Scarecrow must save her. But the Tin Man is rusted, the Scarecrow unstuffed and the Cowardly Lion is scared. The Lion asks the children in the audience to help them overcome the Wicked Witch and save Dorothy. Children from the audience prove they have power over the Wicked Witch by helping their friends on the stage. They become Munchkins, help oil the Tin Man and one youngster is even magically transformed into the wonderful Wizard of Oz!
CINDERELLA’S FAIRY GODMOTHER by Kit’s Interactive Theater
Cinderella is about to marry the Prince, but her Fairy Godmother appears with a riddle to be solved first. Join various fairytale characters in the hilarious search for the answer. Sing, dance, hide from the Giant and become a pixie in Fairy Godmother’s magical Storyland.
MAGIC & BEYOND featuring Illusionist David Garrity
A one-man illusion show featuring unique theatrical and visual magic, audience participation and lots of laughs! Sunglasses appear in a flash of fire, a table mysteriously floats around the stage and into the audience, and ordinary Hula Hoops perform extraordinary magic!

THE ACTOR GAMES by Kids on Stage
A hilarious parody of The Hunger Games, where the Capitol has outlawed all auditions and has divided the population into ten districts: Greek Tragedy, Shakespeare Drama, Commedia Dell’Arte, and others. See what happens during the annual Actor Games when a tribute from each district competes to become a star and losers must suffer the fate of the Fallback Wheel! Performed by Kids on Stage, The CENTER’s afterschool workshop program.
A CHRISTMAS CAROL by The Puppet People
Warm your hearts with Dickens’ classic. Watch Mean Ol’ Scrooge as he discovers Christmas is not HUMBUG! The Puppet People’s spectacular show features beautiful marionettes, holiday music and guaranteed smiles!
