RHINEBECK, NY—Izlind Integrative Wellness Center and Institute of Rhinebeck is pleased to announce that Dr. Jonathan Kirsch has joined its growing practice.
“Dr. Kirsch is an outstanding psychiatrist who has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to combine compassion and skill to address numerous types of challenges for individuals of all ages. His expertise with prescribing and managing psychotropic medications is unparalleled, and I am thrilled that he is joining our exceptional group of healthcare practitioners at Izlind,” said psychologist Dr. Beth Gershuny, Izlind’s founder and president.
Dr. Kirsch is a clinical psychiatrist with extensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Both personable and caring, Dr. Kirsch provides an individualized approach to treatment in a relaxed environment as he builds strong therapeutic alliances and relationships with his clients. His evaluation process is thorough and comprehensive, and recommendations and treatment approaches are based on the most current research and clinical evidence available.
Dr. Kirsch specializes in the treatment of Mood Disorders (including Bipolar Disorder and Depression), Anxiety & Panic, OCD, Trauma & PTSD, Attention & Focus Difficulties, Addictions, Sleep Disorders, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. These specialties have expanded Izlind’s already impressive array of healthcare services to include Psychopharmacology (Medication Evaluation and Management), Medication Consultation, and Motivational Interviewing. Says Dr. Gershuny, “Dr. Kirsch’s expertise with ADD/ADHD and Bipolar Disorder adds to our long list of issues we are able to address at Izlind. And Dr. Kirsch’s additional expertise in medication management for depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, addictions, and sleep disorders provides a welcomed supplement to the forms of treatment we have been providing for these types of issues and disorders since Izlind’s inception.”
Dr. Kirsch’s 25+ years of experience working with patients began prior to medical school: first as an emergency medical technician, and later as a registered nurse working in a variety of settings. The diversity and breadth of his unique, professional background has not only added to his skills as a psychiatrist, but also helps him to see and appreciate the “big picture” of his patients’ challenges. “Dr. Kirsch’s prior experience as a nurse also magnifies the extraordinarily compassionate approaches he takes with patients. He had been on the medical front lines for a long time, prior to becoming a physician, and he understands how to help patients feel at ease,” says Dr. Gershuny.
Dr. Kirsch graduated magna cum laude from Pace University, with a bachelor’s degree in nursing, after which he completed his pre-medical coursework at Columbia University. He attended medical school at New York Medical College, followed by his post-graduate training in psychiatry, including internship and residency, at Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s program at Montefiore Medical Center. An additional fellowship year was also spent at Albert Einstein at Montefiore, specifically in the Autism and Obsessive Compulsive Spectrum Program, where he participated in innovative and cutting edge clinical trials and treatment studies.
In addition to serving as a psychiatrist at Izlind, Dr. Kirsch is also currently on staff at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital of Westchester Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, where he works as an Attending Phsychiatrist. Dr. Kirsch also has hospital privileges at Health Alliance of the Hudson Valley in Kingston and at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown. While in the hospital, he primarily works in the inpatient behavioral health units, he also provides consultative support in the emergency rooms and on the various medical units. Dr. Kirsch enjoys teaching medical students and residents, and he has been influential in the training of future psychiatrists from a number of medical schools and universities.
“It is a pleasure to work and collaborate with Dr. Kirsch on the exemplary treatment of our patients, and I look forward to Dr. Kirsch continuing his integration into our Izlind family of practitioners,” says Dr. Gershuny.
