Rhinebeck Area Chamber announces its 2017 Good Egg Award recipient

The Rhinebeck Area Chamber of Commerce announces its annual

State of Rhinebeck Dinner and Good Egg Award recipient

Photographer Maureen Gates to be honored for her outstanding community achievements

Rhinebeck, NY, January 12, 2017 — The Rhinebeck Area Chamber of Commerce announces its annual January State of Rhinebeck Dinner, recognizing both political leaders and a local business member who goes above and beyond to contribute positively to the community. Deemed a “Good Egg,” the award recipient is chosen by the Rhinebeck Chamber of Commerce board of directors each year, and selected based on an individual’s significant presence in making a difference. The 2017 recipient is photographer Maureen Gates, whose thirty-plus year photography business has made her a celebrated mainstay in Rhinebeck and beyond.  Now in its sixth year, prior Good Egg recipients include Lewis Ruge of Ruge Automotive and Lenny Miller, Gentle Giants 4H.

The dinner will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at the Beekman Arms in Rhinebeck; arrivals, hors d’oeuvres and cash bar is at 6pm and dinner is at 7pm. A brief summary of the business climate will be addressed as it relates to Rhinebeck and the Hudson Valley, providing an opportunity for business leaders and the general public to hear firsthand the “state of Rhinebeck.” The evening also initiates a dialog to discuss and address issues relevant to our community. Invited guest speakers include Rhinebeck Village Mayor Heath Tortarella and Town Supervisor Elizabeth Spinzia.

A focal point of the evening is the Good Egg presentation, which will be given by Rhinebeck Chamber President Jesse Hewitt to honoree Gates.  As a professional photographer for over three decades, Gates can often be seen capturing anything from weddings to portraits to product shots; her expansive portfolio includes the many faces and businesses that make up the region. In addition to frequently shooting special events, often volunteering pro-bono, she is actively involved in several esteemed organizations:

President, Rhinebeck Rotary Club (2016-2017, Scholarship Committee Chair 2015-2016, active committee representative); Vice President, Northern Dutchess BNI; Past Treasurer, Northern Dutchess Hospital Mothers Club (volunteer graphic designer, Fashion Show fundraiser); past official photographer/graphic designer for Taste of Rhinebeck; PR committee, Art Studio Views; past Vice President and volunteer photographer, Rhinebeck Crew; past Board President and member HVPPSNY (Hudson Valley Professional Photographers Society); past member DRPP (Dutchess Regional Professional Photographers), member/volunteer Rhinebeck Area Chamber of Commerce (in-house photographer); member PPA (Professional Photographers of America).

“When the chamber first contacted me about the dinner this year, I thought they were asking me to photograph it. I was so surprised and delighted to learn they picked me as their Good Egg. I was stunned!” exclaims Gates.  “I guess someone else will have to do the photo privileges this year, I’m very happy to enjoy the evening from a different vantage point.  I’m really honored by this,” she adds.

The Good Egg award itself is a colorful purple-hued glass sculpture designed and created by local artist Tom Stoenner.
