Fisher Center at Bard College – Heat Up the Holidays with The Hot Sardines

The Hot Sardines
Holiday Stomp
Friday, December 23 at 8 pm
Sosnoff Theater
Tickets: $25–65

The Hot Sardines’s Evan Palazzo (bandleader) and Elizabeth Bougerol (lead singer) met after responding to a Craigslist ad about a jam session above a Manhattan noodle shop in 2007, where they bonded over a mutual love of Fats Waller. “When we started out as a band, we played illegal parties in these secret spots in Brooklyn. It was pretty down and dirty, and that was one of the reasons we loved it,” Bougerol says. “Cut to a few years later and we were invited to play with the Boston Pops.”

Complete your holiday celebration with The Hot Sardines, one of New York’s “best jazz bands” (Forbes), and an evening of yuletide cheer, holiday melodies, and jazz classics on the Sosnoff stage.

Check out The Hot Sardines’s rendition of “Zazou” (Sweet Sue).

Completed in the midst of political turmoil in Finland, the Andante section of Jean Sibelius’sSymphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 43 (1902) “strikes one as the most broken-hearted protest against all the injustice that threatens at the present time,” as composer and conductor Robert Kajanus, Sibelius’s contemporary, wrote after the premiere. This Conservatory Orchestra concert also features works by Howard Hanson and Matthew Woodard ’17.

Watch Leonard Bernstein conduct Sibelius’s Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 43.
