Getting Fresh Food is a SNAP at the Rhinebeck Farmers’ Market

RHINEBECK, New York- November 22, 2016- Purchasing fresh, healthy, local food is getting easier in Dutchess County. The Rhinebeck Farmers’ Market is pleased to announce their launch of the USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as the Food Stamp Program. SNAP helps reduce food insecurity or hunger for low-income households across the country.

The NYS Farmers Market Wireless EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) Program has made this possible for the Rhinebeck Farmers’ Market to process these benefits. In addition to SNAP, the market also participates in the Farmers Market Nutrition Program)FMNP and FreshConnect.  Until December 31, 2016, SNAP recipients can receive a $2 FreshConnect check for every $5 of SNAP benefits spent.

This winter, shoppers can choose from a bounty of fresh greens, root vegetables, fruits, meats, poultry, seafood, cheeses, honey, maple syrup, breads and more at the indoor farmers’ market, which begins Sunday December 4th at the Rhinebeck Town Hall. The indoor market will host close to twenty vendors this season.  “Many visitors are surprised to find fresh salad greens amongst the bounty of other farm fresh products at the winter market, says Andrea Bartolomeo, the Rhinebeck Farmers’ Market Business Manager.  “We are lucky to have such an offering as farmers work throughout the cold, winter months in their greenhouses.  As fresh, nutritious foods become limited for some, the winter market provides many options to continue a healthy, year-round diet.”

The Rhinebeck Farmer’s Market is open from 10:00am-2:00pm December 4th, 11th, 18th and alternate Sundays January 15th through April 23rd at the Rhinebeck Town Hall 80 East Market Street Rhinebeck, NY 12572. The outdoor market season begins Sunday May 7th 2017 at the Rhinebeck Municipal Parking Lot. Visit for more information.
