Family history and cancer are focus of Northern Dutchess Hospital health talk
Rhinebeck, N.Y. – Northern Dutchess Hospital will present “Family History of Cancer: When Should I Worry?” — a Wellness Series event — from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, in the hospital’s cafeteria conference room, 6511 Springbrook Ave., Rhinebeck.
Vassar Brothers Medical Center genetic counselor Jonathan Clyman is an expert on how family history and cancer are connected, and how genetic testing works. When many cases of cancer occur in one family, there could be environmental links such as cigarette smoking, he said. Other times, the genes we are born with can contribute to our risk of developing certain types of cancer.
The event is free. Refreshments are served. Seating is limited.
