Red Hook Public Library offers elementary STEAM programs on half-days
(RED HOOK, NY) –If half-days have you hunting for things to do, look no further than STEAM Time at the Red Hook Public Library. The program will meet from 1-3 p.m. Friday, September 9 and Friday, October 7, — both half-days at the Mill Road School.
Red Hook Public Library and Mill Road have teamed up to bring special STEAM-learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) opportunities to children in grades K-5. On September 9, the library’s STEAM experts will guide kids in grades K-2 through StikBot Animation, while kids in grades 3-5 will build a robot using a Lego Mindstorm kit. Then, on October 7, both age groups will have the chance to play and create with Makey Makey, an invention kit that turns everyday objects into touchpads, and littleBits electronic building blocks.
These programs are free, but space is limited. Please register in-person at the library.
Red Hook Public Library has been serving the community of Red Hook and its need for lifelong learning since 1898. In 1935, the library made its home in a mid-nineteenth century octagonal building based on the designs of Orson Squire Fowler. In 2013, 2014, and 2015 it was designated a five-star library by Library Journal. The library was chosen as a finalist for the Best Small Library in America award, given by Library Journal and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, in 2015.
