Rhinebeck Rotary Features Presentation on Breast Cancer Foundation
On Monday, August 8th, during its regular meeting at The Beekman Arms, the Rhinebeck Rotary featured a presentation by Pari Farood, executive director of the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation, headquartered in Lagrangeville.
Ms. Farood shared with Rotarians the good news of the various breakthroughs in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment and stressed that recent innovations have resulted in over 14 million breast cancer survivors nationwide.
Miles of Hope, Ms. Farood said, is a local not-for-profit organization serving but four counties in the Hudson Valley and annually provides $1.3 million in funding to individuals impacted by breast cancer. Funding has supported alternative therapy modalities, training programs for survivors, peer-to-peer counseling initiatives, and has also offered scholarships for family members of breast cancer sufferers.
Ms. Farood went on to inform Rotarians, men and women alike, of the things they could do to reduce their own risks of cancer. Weight reduction, dietary improvement, and exercise routines are all things, Ms. Farood said, that enhance a healthy lifestyle and such a lifestyle, combined with early detection, can reduce the dire impacts of a cancer diagnosis.
The Rhinebeck Rotary Club meets on Mondays at 12:15 pm at the Beekman Arms throughout the year. The Rotary is a humanitarian organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of others through local, national, and international service projects.
