SUMMER ARTS EVENTS
August / September 2016
MILLERTON, NY—The Moviehouse is offering a host of Arts programming this summer with up to two two offerings per week – often on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Each of these is a special one-off performance or show, encoring some of the best plays from the stages around the world; showcasing art from major international exhibitions; and giving audiences a chance to see important documentary films that can often not be seen in other cinemas.

Based on Goethe’s novel The Sorrows of Young Werther, Massenet’s opera tells the story of the poet Werther’s hopeless love for Charlotte, who is committed to another man. The music is full of lyrical beauty, passion and emotional fervour, – small wonder that Werther is often considered to be the composer’s finest work.

Thrilling Shakespeare productions from the world’s most famous stage.
Directed by: Dominic Dromgoole
Starring: Mariah Gale as Isabella, Dominic Rowan as Duke Vincentio and Kurt Egyiawan as Angelo.
After a history of quirky adaptations, this lesser known work is now restored to its classic glory. In this story of secret identities and manipulation, the audience are invited to unravel the layers of intrigue skillfully crafted by a superb cast and the directorial prowess of Dromgoole in his final production for the Globe Theatre.

Evan Buliung gives a sweeping performance, portraying the dashing young prince with verve and swagger, and taking him into his elder years with sorrowful tenderness.

Starring: Jonathan Pryce as Shylock; Daniel Lapaine as Bassanio; Rachel Pickup as Portia; and Dominic Mafham as Antonio.
Jonathan Pryce, (Game of Thrones, Wolf Hall, Pirates of the Caribbean), provides an enigmatic performance in this iconic battle between greed and love. Pryce’s Shylock is not only convincing in its duality but helps provide additional gravitas to Munby’s moving production. This tale of prejudice and destructive self-interest paired with Pryce’s memorable interpretation makes this a must-see.
