Early childhood music program offered at Rhinebeck nursing home

Rhinebeck – This summer, the Thompson House will host Catskill Mountain Music Together’s “Generations,” an early childhood music and movement program, at the rehabilitation and nursing facility, 6525 Springbrook Ave., Rhinebeck.

The program is for children newborn to 7 years and their caregivers and is held at 3:45 p.m. beginning July 11 for five consecutive Mondays. Seniors who live at the Thompson House will participate and form bonds with young families while children will engage with people of a different generation. They will sing, dance, shake instruments and swing scarves during the Monday classes.

“I have seen my children and their friends go from shy and uncertain to warm and excited in the presence of their elder friends,” past participant Allison Gould of Red Hook said.

“Our residents light up when the children visit,” said Sue Close, director of recreation at the Thompson House. “One 87-year-old woman gets so excited she laughs, sings, dances and turns into a kid again.”

“Joining together in song is a magical way to unite with others in a room because music permeates the air, surrounds us and transports us to a separate experience in time, sound, rhythm and tonality,” said Miranda Haydn, director of Catskill Mountain Music Together.

The cost is $120 for new families and $105 for returning families.  Register by July 5 at www.cmmusictogether.com. For information, call Haydn at 845-657-2600 or email director@catskillmountainmusictogether.com
