Meet the Robot knee surgery dinner held in Rhinebeck

Rhinebeck – Northern Dutchess Hospital will host a Meet the Robot knee surgery dinner from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, in the cafeteria conference room of the hospital, 6511 Springbrook Ave.

The public is invited to learn about the benefits of the Navio Surgical System for robotic partial knee replacement and get an up-close demonstration of this advanced technology. A light dinner will be provided.

Keynote speaker Dr. Michael Schweppe, an orthopedic surgeon on the medical staff of Northern Dutchess Hospital, said most people with arthritic pain wait until they need a full knee replacement. Thanks to the Navio Surgical System, Northern Dutchess Hospital now offers partial knee replacement, which preserves knee ligaments and saves healthy cartilage and bone.

Schweppe, of Orthopedic Associates of Dutchess County, will show how he can perform surgery on the knee using computer-controlled technology following a perfectly mapped-out diagram. The robot then helps the surgeon precisely place the prosthesis, he said.

Seats are limited. Preregistration is required by May 20. To reserve a spot, call 845-871-1720 ext. 1 (TTY 1-800-421-1220) or visit www.healthquest.org/wellness.
