Letter to the editor : In support of Gary Basset

Letter to the editor,

I am writing in support of Gary Basset for a two- year seat as a Village of Rhinebeck Trustee.

Gary and I first met in the early 90’s as coaches and board members of Rhinebeck Little League.  Gary quickly stepped up to the plate and became treasurer.  Gary had demonstrated his commitment and ability to improve the facilities and organization.  This commitment continued during his tenure as Chairperson of the Recreation Committee and continues now as current Village Trustee.

Over the 20 plus years, I have known him to be passionate about and dedicated to our community.  Gary takes it seriously when he makes a commitment to a group or organization. As a friend, he is the same, with a willingness to help at anytime.  Rhinebeck is fortunate to have a person of his caliber and skill set in our community with the willingness and commitment for the betterment of our village.

The Village of Rhinebeck needs this type of leadership, commitment and project management experience.  We need improvements to the infrastructure to the likes of the water distribution system, the roads, sidewalks and information technology; Gary is someone that can do this for us.  Gary has the experience and breadth of knowledge to connect the needs of the residents, businesses, and tourism, and still maintain the quaint historic charm of Rhinebeck, which is intrinsic to village life here.

I am proud to have him as a close friend and support his candidacy.

Frank Dietrich
