At their January 23rd caucus, an enthusiastic gathering of Rhinebeck Democrats unanimously nominated incumbent Trustee Gary Bassett, former Town Board member Gina Fox, and political newcomer Richard “Ric” Lewit to run for Village Trustees on the Democratic line in the March 15th Village Election.

Trustees serve a two-year term.  However the position sought by Gina Fox is a one-year term, to complete a full term left vacant by the resignation of a trustee last year.

All three candidates spoke of raising their families in Rhinebeck, and the importance of maintaining a vibrant Village center, keeping taxes down and housing affordable while providing essential services.

Gary Bassett, currently serving on the Village Board, noted that being involved in family and community activities is what he is all about.  He strongly believes a candidate must understand the needs and have a connection to the people living in our Village.

While Gina Fox wishes to return gender diversity to the Village Board, even more important she feels is the need to work collaboratively with the Town government across Center Street to solve shared challenges and pare costs.  Her experience serving on the Town Board gives Gina the background to do this.

Ric Lewit cited the need to retain and enhance the positive qualities of Rhinebeck Village life in the face of a changing environment, stating, “I’ve seen a lot of challenging situations and I’ve worked toward creative solutions. I’ve brought together people from disparate backgrounds and worked to develop a common vision for the future. I want to apply those skills to our Village government.”
