Letter to Editor: Thanks to Bard Center for Civic Engagement

Red Hook Public Library would like to thank Bard College’s Center for Civic Engagement for its help Saturday, January 16, during the annual Day of Civic Engagement when 20 students came to the library to help out.

Kids in grade school were treated to a special program featuring series of fun science experiments using common everyday foods. This “mini-camp” was entirely conceived, planned, and carried out by the students and our young patrons had a great time while learning a variety new things.

As the Take a Bite out of Science program concluded, another dozen students arrived to help us move more than ten thousand books, several rooms full of heavy furniture, and an entire room full of oak shelving outside to our storage pods in preparation for our renovation. This group of young strong volunteers labored intensely for almost two hours, allowing us to complete a job quickly, efficiently and economically. It was truly community service in action.

Thank you to our good neighbors at Bard College!

Sincerely,
