The term Chiaroscuro refers to a strong juxtaposition of light and dark, which results in a stunning visual effect in a work of art. Famous artists like Leonardo Da Vinci, Caravaggio and Rembrandt were masters at adding drama in their paintings by applying a chiaroscuro effect. Chiaroscuro is not exclusive to the old masters and can be found in contemporary art as well. Georgia Landman, a photographer from Hudson, NY, will curate the show.
The Tivoli Artists Gallery is a group of about 40 Hudson Valley artists that maintains a gallery in the lively village of Tivoli, New York. The gallery began in November of 1989 as a holiday crafts fair in Rhinebeck, NY. In January of 1993, it established a year-round presence in Tivoli, NY. The goal of the gallery has always been to maintain a space where professional artists are encouraged to take risks and produce original new work. Since its inception, the Gallery has built a reputation for excellence and enjoys recognition for its stimulating exhibits and related events. The members consist of painters, sculptors, jewelers, photographers, potters, illustrators, performance artists, digital artists and animators. Many of the artists work in more than one medium, which makes each exhibit at the Gallery unique and unprecedented.
