“Explorations in Art” An Exhibition of Works by Brookemeade Residents

October 8 – November 30, 2015

Opening Reception

Thursday, October 8th, 4:30 – 6:30

Who: An exhibit of works made by Brookemeade residents during their “Explorations in Art” program.  The Baptist Home at Brookemeade residents created paintings, collages and other works during the NEW DAY Explorations in Art program.  This innovative program was designed to provide residents, especially those with dementia, with opportunities for self-expression and communication when memory, speech and movement have been compromised by illness.  Funding for NEW DAY Explorations in Art was provided by the Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley Dutchess County Community Response Fund.

What: Colorful intense emotion are the underpinning of these paintings.  Some reflect childhood events that can no longer be articulated in speech.  Others refer to landscapes and scenes remembered for a lifetime. The latent talent of the residents is evident in each piece though individual pieces may have sophisticated technique or be similar to “outsider” art.

When: This exhibit is open to the public October 8 – November 30, 2015, daily

9am – 5pm.  A reception with the artists will be held Thursday, October 8th, 4:30 – 6:30.

Where:  Montgomery Row Second Level is located on the second floor of Montgomery Row, 6423 Montgomery Street (Rt 9), Rhinebeck north of Upstate Films and across from Gigi Trattoria.  There is parking at the building’s north entrance and at the Garden Street entrance.
