Spring For Sound Music Festival Millerton NY
Millerton, New York, April 13, 2015 —-Spring in the Village of Millerton, New York, means Spring for Sound, Millerton’s annual homegrown music festival, this year celebrating its fifth anniversary and promising to be bigger and better than ever.
“In five years we’ve grown Spring for Sound from four bands on one stage to over fifty sets on eight stages,” says event co-founder Mimi Ramos. “We’ve amplified Spring For Sound in every way.”
Spring For Sound is an all-day, rain-or-shine event that takes place once a year in the middle of the beautiful walking village of Millerton, NY, with proceeds going to support the vital programming of the North East Community Center in Millerton, now celebrating 25 years of service. Spring for Sound is co-produced by Ramos and local resident Kristen Panzer, in partnership with the North East Community Center.
This year’s festival will take place on June 20, 2015.
The music will kick off at 11:00 am during the Millerton Farmers Market on the Village Green, which will be transformed after the Market into Spring for Sound’s NXNE Venue with music all day on relay stages at opposite ends of the green. A mouthwatering selection of refreshments, with an emphasis on local, high-quality ingredients, and locally produced beers and wines, will be available for purchase at the NXNE Venue. The last band, one of Spring For Sound’s perennial favorites, The Nice Ones, will take the stage at 10:15 pm.
The Decks & Dance Party stage, at 51 South Center Street, Millerton, on the grounds of the North East Community Center, will run simultaneously with music for the whole family including a Country Western band playing timeless favorites and line dancing led by a professional dance instructor. The NECC’s Teen Team will lead children’s activities and the NECC’s summer food truck will be offer fresh, healthy fare for purchase. The Decks and Dance Party Stage is free to all.
As afternoon turns to evening the Decks stage will feature local rap artists and a rollicking DJ Dance Party.
Once again Spring for Sound will feature a third stage in the industrial, warehouse space at Gilmor Glass, 2 Main Street, Millerton, from 11am – to 9 pm. The Gilmor Stage will feature performances by a range of artists including TJay and the Tall Boys, Kennan Moving Company, and Carrie Bradley Neves, of The Breeders fame. The Gilmor venue will also feature a selection of beers and wines as well as a raw bar with fresh oysters à la carte, iced and on the half shell, at market prices tbd.
This year, Oblong Books and Music at 30 Main Street, Millerton, will host an acoustic stage for singer-songwriters, including local favorite Tap Madrus.
Gilded Moon Framing and Gallery will also host a cocktail hour pop-up stage on their grounds at 17 John St, Millerton, and feature a range of artists including local favorites Bash Bish Bluegrass Band.
52 Main Tapas Bar and Restaurant will host music all day and No 9 Restaurant will host several sets on the front lawn along Main Street and feature a menu specially created for the event.
The Harlem Valley Drummers will host a drum circle at Veteran’s Park beginning at 11 am. Bring your kids, audience participation encouraged.
The full band schedule will be posted on the event website www.springforsound.com and will include local rockers Take One Car, The Kyles, and hip-hop artist Buddha Da Great, as well as everyone’s favorite hula hooping DJ, DJ Doctor, among others. Spring for Sound is also pleased to welcome returning bands from afar including Light Bright and Luddy Mussy from Boston and Stone Cold Fox from Brooklyn, as well as newcomers to the festival: Hudson Valley reggae band The Big Takeover; Milk, an alternative rock band from Boston; and Jordan Stoner, a Hudson Valley based Country Western artist, to name just a few.
Advance tickets are $15 and are available at the North East Community Center 51 S. Center Street, Millerton; The Music Cellar, located at the head of the rail trail in Millerton; and online at www.springforsound.com. Tickets may also be purchased at the gates for $20. Children 12 and under accompanied by an adult are free.
