March 6 – April 24, 2015
“Ocular Concepts” is a solo exhibit by Andrew Halpern of nature and design digital photographs. These pictures will be on display at Montgomery Row Second Level in Rhinebeck, NY at 6423 Montgomery Street (Rt. 9). The opening reception is Saturday, March 21, 5-7 pm
Who: Andrew Halpern studied Photographic Technology from 1976-78 at Harrisburg Area Community College in Pennsylvania. In the interim he worked in the internet business. Andrew started an Internet company in 1994 called Ulsternet which helped bring local access to upper Dutchess and Ulster County. After selling the company in 2001 he started getting back to his true passion of photography and has been building a portfolio of fine art from the area and around the world. The show consists of a sampling of his photographic works representing his philosophy that the camera’s view finder can locate and thus memorialize the scenes, which are concepts in his mind.
“Photography has always captured my imagination and heart. With a camera you can capture any moment in time and revisit it later any time you want. You can imagine a scene that exists only in your mind and bring the scene to life in an image you can then share with the world, so others can see the world as you do. Photography is more than just art, more than a recording device. I believe photography is a multipurpose media mechanism that allows us to express our thoughts, share our visions, capture our present and relive our past. It is evolving and changing in its ability to bring these things into all of our lives. For what is time but the passing moments of our lives forever captured in our memories. With photography, we can all be time travelers.”
Prior to his first one person show Halpern has shown pieces in juried exhibits in the Hudson Valley. The shows were as follows, Artists collective gallery shows PHOTOgraphy 2013 and 2014, Saugerties Performing arts factory show 2014 and also the Intima Gallery in Saugerties.
What: All photos were taken with a digital SLR camera and post processing was done with various photo editing programs and printed by the artist on a Canon Pro Pixma large format archival inkjet printer.
