NYSDOH – New York State Health Department

West Nile virus has been found again this season in NYC and in five other NYS counties. There have been no reported human cases so far this year. State Health Commissioner Dr. Nirav R. Shah says that “the most important thing an individual can do is take basic precautions to avoid mosquito bites that could cause serious illnesses.”

To reduce the risk of diseases spread by mosquitoes:

– reduce or eliminate all standing water around your home and property;

– wear shoes and socks, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt when outdoors for long periods of time;

– consider using mosquito repellent, according to directions, when it is necessary to be outdoors when mosquitoes are biting.
