WHO: Linda T. Hubbard, a native New Englander, is a Hudson RiverValley photographer specializing in landscapes that “capture the beauty, peace and serenity of nature”. Retired from IBM, where she held various management positions, she now devotes her time to her photography business, Country Elegance, and gallery, RiverWinds. She has exhibited at fine art and craft shows throughout New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut as well as in HudsonValley galleries. Her work is part of private collections in the United States, South America, Australia and Europe. Hubbard has been listed in the Art in America Guide.

Hubbard is President of the Beacon Arts Community Association (BACA), on the Dutchess County Tourism Advisory Board, and has chaired Art Along the Hudson for ten years. She is Past President of the Hudson Valley Artisans Guild and past member of the Mill Street Loft Board. She is also a member of the Dutchess County Arts Council, the Mid-Hudson Photo Club, and the Dutchess Professional Photographers Association. In 2009, Hubbard received the “Special Citation” Award from the Dutchess County Executive for her numerous contributions to the HudsonValley arts community.

WHAT: The exhibit “As the Crow Flies” is a solo exhibition of aerial photographs made from a helicopter piloted by her daughter.  Having recorded much of the Hudson RiverValley while “on her feet”, Hubbard took advantage of several helicopter rides to document another perspective of the mountains, cliffs, bridges, and towns that compose the Valley.  The vistas she captured with this new horizon bring fresh awareness of our surroundings.  Her concept was to present to the viewer a distanced perspective of one of America’s majestic view sheds; a perspective that raises questions about the residents’ involvement with their natural environment. How do they view it? How do they use it? What is the future of that relationship? And, how does it differ from relationships in previous decades or centuries? This exhibit reflects from a distant altitude the integration, sometimes cohesively sometimes not, of nature and man-made structures subtly asking each viewer to consider their own impact on their environment.

“As the Crow Flies” reflects the abundant interests, curiosity and abilities of a mature photographer. The Montgomery Row Second Level “As the Crow Flies” exhibit from June 14 – July 27, 2013 will feature Linda T. Hubbard’s aerial Hudson RiverValley portfolio.
