Food Pantry at the Church of the Messiah update July 29, 2012
The Food Pantry at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah in Rhinebeck now serves over 190 households. Open from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm every Friday at 6436 Montgomery Street, it offers emergency food assistance to area residents on a wholly non-sectarian basis and in a warmly hospitable environment.
Due to a major grant from the Food Bank and generous donations from the community, we have been able to keep our shelves well stocked since spring. Nevertheless, gaps always appear. Food items that are often unavailable from the Food Bank and are especially welcome as donations include: shampoo, soap, toothpaste, pancake mix, plain rice (both regular and instant, brown or white), canned potatoes (white and yams), sugar, flour, and family treats like Jello, pudding, and cake or muffin mix.
Food can be dropped off any weekday morning at the Parish Hall behind the church. Alternatively, money donations are especially valuable because we can use them to purchase food at a low price from the Food Bank. Checks may be made out to Church of the Messiah, with “Food Pantry” written on the memo/notation line. Donations are fully tax deductible.
Our pantry volunteers are grateful for the abundant support we have been receiving from community groups and individuals throughout the Rhinebeck area. Thank you!
