New York State Police Newsroom Notification: CLICK-IT OR TICKET CAMPAIGN RESULTS

New York State Police News:
Pleasant Valley, NY – Major Michael A. Kopy, Troop K Commander, announced that Troopers issued 1,125 tickets for violations of the state’s mandatory seatbelt laws during the May 21 – June 3, 2012, enforcement effort. During the zero tolerance “click it or ticket” enforcement campaign, troopers joined with local police and sheriffs’ departments statewide to encourage seatbelt use in advance of the summer travel season.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that seatbelt use alone reduces the risk of fatal injuries by 45% for occupants of passenger vehicles, and by 60% for occupants of pickup trucks, SUVs and vans.

In addition to the 1,125 safety restraint issued by members of Troop K, troopers arrested 60 people for driving while intoxicated and ticketed 899 drivers for speeding.
