On Saturday, September 24, a team of New York State Troopers issued 123 tickets in less than eight hours between 8AM and 4PM on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of Stanford, Dutchess County. Eighty-three motorists were ticketed for speeding. In addition, forty tickets were issued for other traffic infractions, including unlawful use of a handheld cell phone while operating a vehicle and failure to comply with the state’s “move over” law which requires motorists to slow down and if it can be done safely, move away from emergency vehicles that are stopped on a controlled-access highway and displaying emergency lights. One driver was also arrested for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, a violation, and released with an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Stamford Court at a later date. The New York State Police will continue to conduct similar operations and traffic checkpoints during the fall that target aggressive driving, intoxicated and drug-impaired vehicle operation, and failure to use seat belts and child restraints as required by law.
