State Police Issue 98 Tickets During July 4th Speed Enforcement Detail on the Taconic State Pkwy

On Monday, July 4, a team of New York State Troopers issued 98 tickets in less than six hours between 11AM and 5PM on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of Stanford, Dutchess County. Seventy-three motorists were ticketed for speeding. In addition, three tickets were issued for failure to wear a seat belt and twenty-two tickets were issued for other traffic infractions, including unlawful use of a cell phone while operating a vehicle and failure to comply with the state’s “move over” law which requires motorists to slow down and if it can be done safely, move away from emergency vehicles that are stopped on a controlled-access highway and displaying emergency lights. The New York State Police will continue to conduct similar operations and traffic checkpoints over the busy summer travel season that target aggressive driving, intoxicated and drug-impaired vehicle operation, and failure to use seat belts and child restraints as required by law.
