RHS Announces Valedictorian and Salutatorian 2011
Valedictorian Megan Michie, daughter of Robert and Carol Michie of Rhinebeck, is captain of the Varsity Softball Team, and has earned 6 varsity letters in softball. She was a member of the 2009 and 2010 Class C State Champion Softball Teams, and she was named the New York State Class C State Player of the year in 2009 and 2010. She has also been named the 2010 MHAL Pitcher of the Year, the 2009 and 2010 Poughkeepsie Journal Pitcher of the Year, and the 2009 and the 2010 Daily Freeman Player of the Year. As a member of the Varsity Volleyball Team, Ms. Michie earned three varsity letters, and was a member of the 2009 and 2010 Section IX Champion Teams.
Ms. Michie is a member of the National Honor Society, and has served the school as a member of the Diversity Club, Environmental Club, Latin Club, and Heart Safe Club of Rhinebeck. Ms. Michie has won the 2010 Marist Medal of Science and Health, the 2009 PTSO Latin award, the 2009 Rhinebeck Grange #896 Chemistry Award, and the Rhinebeck High School Student of the Month award in Latin, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Physical Education. She has been listed on the High Honor Roll for every quarter of attendance at Rhinebeck High School, and she has been named a 2011 National Merit Scholar Finalist.
Ms. Michie plans to attend Colby College in Waterville, Maine in the fall, where she has been named a William D. Adams Presidential Scholar. Ms. Michie will study biology or chemistry, and she will play volleyball and softball at the Division III level.
Salutatorian Elizabeth Batkin, daughter of Norton Batkin and Rachel Cavell of Rhinebeck, is an AP Scholar, and has been listed on the High Honor Roll for every quarter of attendance at Rhinebeck High School. She has served Rhinebeck High School as a member of the Environmental Club and Students Against Destructive Decisions, and as class co-president in her freshman and sophomore years. She has been awarded the PTSO French Award, and the Jim Closs award for academic excellence. Ms. Batkin has studied piano and music theory at the Bard Conservatory Prepatory Division, and plans to attend Bard College in the fall.
