Get the Book List Ready

College Admissions and Essay Coaching
June is here and summer vacation is near! While we all consider the endless possibilities that the next couple of months could bring, there is one activity that seems to go hand-in-hand with all of this anticipated idle time – reading!
Who doesn’t absolutely love lounging in a comfy chair poolside with a great book (or Kindle, for that matter)? Not only do stories allow us the wonderful opportunity to explore new worlds, live vicariously through the adventures of the characters about whom we read and escape from some of the challenges of our own lives – but reading, without a doubt, makes you more intelligent. And, as you begin to prepare for the college admissions journey, there is no greater tool than reading to get you ready for the next chapter in your life.
Consider this:
*Your standardized test scores still count for something. While some schools have joined the revolution to eliminate SAT scores from application requirements (and I say, “way to go, hope the movement continues to grow in popularity!”), most of the several thousand higher ed institutions in our country still weight these “aptitude barometers” QUITE heavily. By reading voraciously this summer, you can expand your vocabulary, better develop reading comprehension abilities, and improve your understanding of proper grammar, all giving you a potentially tremendous boost in your test scores, thereby opening the doors to Dream College Acceptance!
