A REAL FIXER-UPPER: Historic Hoyt House in Staatsburg to get much-needed attention

STAATSBURG — Nestled between Norrie Point and Mills Mansion in this Northern Dutchess hamlet is a little-known Hudson River estate, the “Hoyt House,” or  “The Point.”

While the 1855 home designed by renowned 19th-century architect Calvert Vaux is steeped in the history of the region, after being saved by the wrecking ball in the mid-1960s it has suffered through decades of benign neglect under the stewardship of the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, which owns the site.
