Deputies hunt suspect in Bard College burglary attempt

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON — Authorities in Dutchess County are on the lookout for a man they said tried to burglarize a faculty member’s dormitory at Bard College Wednesday night.

The incident, which took place at about 8:30 a.m. at the Robbins Dormitory,  was initially reported as a disoriented and lost person, county sheriff’s deputies said.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they determined that a man had tried without success to break into an apartment. Deputies said the man ran off when he was confronted.

Sheriff’s deputies and college security searched the dormitory for the suspect but did not find him. The investigation was then turned over to the detective division of the sheriff’s office.

The suspect is described as a clean-shaven white man standing between 5 feet, 2 inches and 5 feet, 4 inches tall. Authorities said he was barefoot at the time and was wearing blue jeans, a dark hooded sweatshirt and a military-style hat.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office at (845) 486-3800.
