Police are searching for a man they say tried to rob a Milan couple as they exited the village’s municipal parking lot on New Year’s Eve.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident occurred around 7 p.m. when a man, dressed in dark clothing stopped them shortly after they got out of their car, demanding their wallets. “He held some kind of pointed object,” Lt. Frank LaMonica said. “We’re not sure if it was a knife or not. It wasn’t a gun.”LaMonica said the man was chased off by a passerby who witnessed the scene. “He was last seen running east on East Market Street,” LaMonica said. The man is described as white, possibly in his 30s, with a heavy build and wearing a dark jacket and baseball cap. LaMonica said the case was currently under investigation by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office and the State Police.
