Rhinebeck school district sees pitfalls of ‘Race to the Top’

RHINEBECK — School district officials on Tuesday described the federal “Race to the Top” educational funding program as confusing and without clear goals, predicting that long-term expenses will far exceed the $40,000 award required to shared with  other districts in Dutchess County BOCES over a four-year period.

At a Rhinebeck Board of Education meeting, district Superintendent Joseph Phelan said plans are already being made to adjust future budgets to accommodate requirements that include the development of evaluation programs for teachers and principals.
