Parents protest Regents’ 1-year waiver

ALBANY — When the state Board of Regents raised standards for statewide tests over the summer, hundreds of thousands of students deemed proficient under the old system fell below standards, making them eligible for academic-intervention services.

Because of the potential fiscal impact and the late notice provided by the state, Regents put in place an emergency rule this summer to temporarily keep the old standards in place for the purposes of determining eligibility for remedial assistance.
