Carbon monoxide detectors required

RHINEBECK — The Rhinebeck Fire Department has issued an advisory regarding a new state law that will require carbon monoxide detectors be used in residences effective Feb. 22.

Carbon monoxide detectors will be required in all dwelling units with appliances, devices or systems that may emit carbon monoxide or that have an attached garage.

Existing one- and two-family residences will be required to have one carbon monoxide alarm installed on the lowest story having a sleeping area.

A copy of the law can be found on the Internet at www.dos.state.ny.us/code/COAlarm.htm#amandalaw.
