RED HOOK —- Free Christmas movies for children and their families will be offered Saturday at the Lyceum Six Cinemas off U.S. Route 9.
The movies are sponsored by the Lyceum Cinemas and the merchants of Hardscrabble Center on Route 9.
The two films to be shown are “Elf,” rated G and starring Will Ferrell, Ed Asner, James Caan and Bob Newhart; and “Alvin and the Chipmunks,” rated PG, starring Jason Lee.
Both films will show at 10:15 a.m. Admission is free, but tickets must be obtained in advance from any of the following: Movies To Go, Holy Cow, F&M Printing, Hana Sushi, Uncle Chippies Burger Shop, or Butler & Sons, Carol’s Cutting Edge, Subway or the Red Hook branch of Rhinebeck Savings Bank.
Santa Claus will be on hand at the Lyceum when the doors open at 9:30 a.m. Everyone who attends the movie is asked to bring a nonperishable food item, which the Dutchess County Community Action Agency office in Red Hook will distribute to needy families in the area.
Those who do not plan to attend a movie but wish to donate food items may drop the items off at the theater between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
