Survivor takes a tragedy to heart

A Rhinebeck woman who survived a sudden cardiac arrest at 15, and then went on to educate others about the issue, will be featured on the CNN HLN series “Breakthrough Women” on Sunday.

Kaitlin Forbes survived thanks to an automated external defibrillator that was at Rhinebeck High School where she went into cardiac arrest in 2005, but 14 months later her classmate and close friend, Maggie O’Malley, 17, died of the same cause.
