Dutchess County Fair Pie Baking Championship

Dutchess County Fair, Route 9, Rhinebeck

DETAILS: Bake a Perfect Pie for the Pie Baking Championship at the fair. All ages are invited to participate and prizes will be awarded. To enter submit any two-crust fruit pie using Pillsbury refrigerated pie crusts. All entries will be judge at the fair based on taste, appearance, creativity, ease of preparation and general appeal. The website www.pillsbury.com/pie will feature a variety of winners this fall including the national grand prize recipe at year end.

Boat rides, lighthouse tours available

KINGSTON — Boat rides to and from the Rondout Lighthouse, and tours of the structure, will be offered Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Sponsored by the Hudson River Maritime Museum, the city of Kingston and Hudson River Water Taxi, the event will employ The Lark, a 40-person vessel, to shuttle people between the city’s Rondout Creek waterfront and the lighthouse, which is at the juncture of the creek and the Hudson River.

People wanting to take the boat ride and tour should arrive at the Hudson River Cruises ticket booth under the U.S. Route 9W bridge between 1 and 1:30 p.m. to buy tickets. The Lark will depart at 2 p.m. Tickets also can be reserved in advance at (845) 340-4700 or (800) 843-7472, toll-free.

The cost is $10 per person. The boat rides and lighthouse tour will last a total of about 90 minutes. The rides and tours will be repeated every Thursday though Sunday until the end of August.
