Health officials step up West Nile prevention effort

Mosquitoes that can transmit West Nile virus lay their eggs in stagnant water around homes, and “any standing water around the yard can provide a home for mosquitoes to breed,” said Ed Coons, public health sanitarian for Columbia County.
