In Trial of Brooke Astor’s Son, Another Side of the Family (and Ocean) Is Heard From

For most current-day New Yorkers, Brooke Astor is the face of her esteemed family, which began planting its wealth in the United States more than two centuries ago with the arrival of the first John Jacob Astor from Germany. Mrs. Astor’s death two years ago at age 105 left something of a void in the American branch of the family tree.
