In Rhinebeck, a fire burned some five acres of open field off U.S. Route 9 behind the Phantom Gardener.

Firefighter Rick Dorrer said about 50 firefighters from eight fire departments battled the blaze from about 3:55 until 7:48 p.m.

Dorrer said the Rhinebeck Fire Department was assisted by the Hillside, Milan, Red Hook, Rhinecliff, Staatsburg, East Clinton and West Clinton fire departments. Also on the scene were the Northern Dutchess Paramedics and the Dutchess County fire coordinator. The American Red Cross was also on the scene with beverages for firefighters.

There were no injuries reported in either fire and officials said no structures were threatened.
