The former treasurer of a Rhinebeck-based public television station was sentenced to five years of probation Tuesday for stealing more than $20,000 from the station.
Dutchess County Court Judge Gerald V. Hayes imposed the sentence on Charles Callejo, who ran the Public Access Northern Dutchess Area (PANDA) station when he stole more than $20,000 last year. Callejo has since repaid all the money.
Under the terms of his probation, Callejo must perform 100 hours of community service within the next 19 months.
Callejo entered a guilty plea April 15 to grand larceny, a felony. Hacknowledged he had stolen the money from PANDA bank accounts between January and July 2007.
The station is a nonprofit organization formed in 1995 to serve residents of municipalities in Rhinebeck and Red Hook. The organization is funded by a portion of cable franchise fees each town and village receives from Time Warner Cable.
