Scouts will hold food drive

Boy Scout troops 128 and 228, along with Cub Scout Pack 28, will conduct their annual Scouting for Food drive Saturday.

Scouts will deliver shopping bags to residents of Rhinebeck, along with a flier that explains the program. Residents are asked to fill the bag with nonperishable food items and toiletries and put it somewhere that is visible from the street by 9 a.m. April 5.

Scouts will collect the filled bags and bring them to the Rhinebeck town hall, where the contents will be sorted and placed in boxes to be delivered to food pantries at the Church of the Messiah and Reformed Church in Rhinebeck.

Last year, more than 5,500 items were collected, filling four utility trailers.

Occasionally a bag may be missed during the collections. If a bag is not collected by 2 p.m. April 5, call Mark Fleischhauer at 845-876-5311 or Gary Chapman at 845-266-8868.
