The Rhinebeck Reformed Church will be celebrating Earth Day on Sunday, April 29th, with a Caring for Creation worship service at 9:45 AM, and followed by an Environmental Fair in their fellowship hall from 11 AM to 2 PM. Dr. Willis Jenkins, Professor of Social Ethics at Yale Divinity School, will be the keynote speaker in the worship service. His expertise is in environmental ethics where he employs a pluralistic approach drawn from several Christian traditions to the study of environmental theology. The Environmental Fair will have a variety of topics represented such as bio diversity, hybrid cars, compact fluorescent light bulbs, recycling, toxic contamination, gardening tips, open space preservation, global warming, solar collectors, local farming activities, and Red Hook and Rhinebeck school environmental activities. Each topic will have a presentation table where displays, posters or handouts illustrate what is being done or can be done to conserve the environment, as well as a spokesperson to converse with the attendees. In addition earth friendly snacks will be available, such as fair trade coffee, rain forest nuts, and organic veggies served with bio degradable tableware. Everyone is welcome to this free event. Call the Church for further information: 876-3727.
