Town Board Budget process coming up
Please note the official 2007 budget-making process will begin next Wednesday, October 4, at 6:45PM, when the town board receives the Supervisor’s Tentative 2007 Rhinebeck Town budget in public session. Copies of this draft budget will be available. The brief meeting will also include several “quick” items for town board consideration including:1. Naming new leadership for the Conservation Advisory Council
2. an application to the State Parks Department for a grant regarding trails at the Thompason-Mazzarella Park
3. a plan to demolish the town-owned barn on Stone Church Road
4. upgrading the town’s primary copying machine
After the short meeting next Wednesday night, the Board will hold four public workshops to discuss the budget. These will occur on:
Wednesday, October 11 at 5 PM
Thursday, October 12 at 5 PM
Tuesday, October 17 at 5 PM
Tuesday, October 24 at 7:30 AM
While these workshops will be open, we will limit public participation in order to allow town board deliberation to take place within a reasonable amount of time. We will take questions for clarification. For your information, the town board will go into executive session if discussion about employee compensation requires consideration of work performance. That subject is confidential and the town board is required to discuss such sensitive matters in private.
Serious public review and participation will take place in November when we will hold a public hearing the day or two after the election (not yet decided). The Board has until November 20 to adopt a final budget. The town board has the option of extending the public hearing if public debate is extended beyond one evening.
Hope this helps. As always, don’t hesitate to write back if you have questions or comments about this essential responsibility of the town board and supervisor.
