About ~ RBK Communtiy Forum

Rhinebeck is one of America’s most beautiful towns.

The earliest settlers were the Sepasco Indians. The vitality of the Hudson River sustained many tribes here and along the Rondout. The Dutch came next and some Palatine Germans were settled through the benevolence of Queen Anne. This was at Kipsbergen and Germantown.

Founded in 1688, the bucolic, Historic Rhinebeck has evolved with the times, yet remains a beloved hometown for residents and a beautiful and interesting meeting place for visitors.

Whether the arts, music, dance, film, or simply gazing at the sunset along the Hudson, this American jewel has something for everyone. Over the last three hundred years the Hudson Valley has been husbanded and loved by generations of diverse people.

Home to the country’s oldest Inn, Rhinebeck offered then–and continues to nourish today– a rich and diverse fare for every taste, in an environment that has drawn some of the country’s most notable figures, including George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, and others.

We, the residents, are the current stewards of the natural beauty that surrounds us.   We maintain a rich community life and offer a multitude of services, events, and gatherings of every kind.  Our attractions draw a substantial number of tourists and visitors year after year.

The Rhinebeck Community Forum is an on-line bulletin board designed to bridge all members of our community, including our guests. We are an entirely volunteer, devoted to offering the latest communications regarding our town and village, and its environs both great and small.  Here you’ll find calendars and lists that include regional events, fairs, festivals, and other opportunities that make our town such an attractive venue for so many affairs.

The Rhinebeck Community Forum is a non-denominational, non-partisan platform offering helpful links, advisories, and other essential services.   Thousands log onto our site every month.  And more are coming!

We invite all comments and contributions from readers.  After all, we are a community, and each one of us has a part to play in the greater scheme.  Besides, Rhinebeck kicks ass.

  6. FROST MEMORIAL FUND, INC.

We are pleased to announce the creation of Frost Memorial Fund, Inc., by the late Barbara V. Frost and Benson R. Frost, Jr. The Directors are now organizing the Fund so that it may make grants in the near future. In early 2010, we will post guidelines for program grant proposals on our website (www.FrostMemorialFund.org).

The founders intended that the Fund support civic and charitable endeavors, primarily in the Village and Town of Rhinebeck, through grants to eligible public charities organized and operated exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, literary or educational purposes. They spent a great deal of their lives saving and preparing to leave their estates for the benefit of the community they loved. We will carry out their intentions.

    Dear Forum,

Walking is healthy, ecologically friendly, and vital to a small town’s
economic viability and community spirit. One year ago I began leading an
effort to aggressively study the condition of Rhinebeck’s pedestrian
system and how we might improve this aging portion of our infrastructure.
Many said that it could not be done.

Please join us on February 24 at 7:00 pm in Rhinebeck’s Village Hall to
witness an important milestone in Rhinebeck’s community development. Our
Pedestrian Task Force has completed their study and their report will show
that it can, in fact, be done.

This task force has raised the bar of expectation on many levels. Never
again will we be able to let important issues fester for lack of
solutions. This diverse group of volunteers has proven that the answers
to our problems lie within us, our neighbors, our Village. If we are to
achieve great things, we must all get involved in our communities and do
the hard work that is necessary to find those solutions. With your help,
    it can be done.

A special Thanks to Dutchess County Department of Planning and Rhinebeck Task Force volunteers: Klara Sauer, Robert Babirad, Michael L. Bird,
Charles Derbyshire, Ted Fink, John Halpern, Laura R.Linder and John C. Wirth, Jr. Your
time commitment and devotion to improving your Village will not be
forgotten. I sincerely hope that it will inspire others to follow in your
footsteps and help the Village Board find solutions to all the other
critical issues that we face today, and will face tomorrow.

I encourage all of your readers to attend their local Town and Village
Board meetings. To find out what is happening and to get involved. You
CAN make a difference and your help will be greatly appreciated.

  11. Denny Dillon and IMPROV NATION at the Rhinebeck Auditorium

SNL Alumna and Tony-Award Nominated Stage, Film and TV Actress Brings Her Passion for Improvisation to Rhinebeck on June 10 at 7:30pm.

Rhinebeck, NY – Led by Saturday Night Live alumna Denny Dillon, IMPROV NATION, the Hudson Valley-based company of gibberish talkers, conceptual tightrope walkers, off-the-cuff scene-makers and ridiculous risk takers, will take over the Rhinebeck Auditorium on June 10 at 7:30pm.

Dillon and her self-proclaimed “daredevil” ensemble of actors who improvise comedy and drama “right before your (and their) very eyes,” have presented their unscripted evenings to audiences throughout the Hudson Valley since 2006.

Dillon brings a wealth of improv experience to the stage. While a cast member of Saturday Night Live (SNL) during its 1980-1981 season, playing alongside Chevy Chase, Kevin Nealon and Randy Quaid, she also worked with Del Close, co-founder of Second City Improv. She first studied improvisation with Viola Spolin, a pioneer in the field and author of Improvisation for the Theatre.

The Rhinebeck Auditorium, located on the Rhinebeck High School campus, is the area’s newest venue for music, comedy and other live performances. The hall seats 500 and has hosted a variety of performers, including musicians Jay Unger & Molly Mason, Solas An Lae Irish dance, the Storycrafters and many others.

PLEASE….I hope this doesn’t go out to everyone but I cannot find a way to contact you.

I get the posts emailed to me and every time I get an email, there is an enormous amount of old posts as well as lots of ….’how to get your posts on’. I just received an email that had perhaps a dozen or more posts. Some even appeared to be private messages to you folks. While trying to go through each and every post in the email, I accidentely deleted the whole thing.

The Rhinebeck Community Forum is a wonderful resource . Am I doing something wrong or can you possibly fix this email concern?

    Thanks

ps – I just tried to post this from the main ‘how to get a post on’ and it appeared to fail so now I am writing to letters to the editor. PLEASE…. can you make this a little easier? I hope this post goes to your form here. Here goes… I will now hit ‘post comment’

A second message after trying to post AGAIN:
